Meet author Holly Cohen, author of The Christmas Angel in Apt. 3C

  • How did you hear about Anaiah Press?

My first introduction to Anaiah Press came as a result of a Twitter pitch contest. I took a chance and pitched my novel, now titled The Christmas Angel in Apt. 3C. Happily, Anaiah Press editor Kara Leigh Miller hearted one of my pitches for the novel.

  • Do you have any strange writing habits?

I like to write my first draft longhand in pencil. I don’t stop to edit during this first pass so as not to impede the flow of the work. It is only when I begin entering the work into my computer that I start editing.

  • What book do you wish you could have written?

I would love to have written A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Betty Smith wrote such poignant characters. Once you read about them, they never leave your heart.

  • What authors have inspired you to write?

Betty Smith, Louisa May Alcott, Harper Lee, and Amy Tan are among the writers who have inspired me to write.

  • Are you a plotter or a pantster?

I think I might be a plantster (part plotter, part pantster). I do a rough sketch of a plot before starting to write, but then I give the story leeway to go in a different direction if it must.

  • Is anything in your book based on real life experiences?

Some of the situations, locations, and backdrops in the book are based on my experiences growing up in New Jersey.
