Author Interview: Chrissy M. Dennis

Today we have Chrissy M. Dennis with us, talking about her new release The Paper Wolf!

Congratulations on your new release!

Thanks so much!

Give us a quick one paragraph summary of your latest release.

Gracie Anderson may only be eleven, but five years in foster care has taught her that happy endings don’t exist in the real world, not for kids like her anyway. And she’s convinced this next foster home will be just as bad as all the others.

Except… it’s not.

The Barkmans are completely different from any family she’s ever known, and she doesn’t trust them one bit because no one is that understanding and compassionate. But no matter how hard Gracie pushes against them, how rude, rebellious, and disrespectful she is toward them, they consistently come back at her with faith, love, and acceptance. And when Gracie’s mom decides not to come back for her, the Barkmans welcome her as one of their own, proving that even someone as damaged as Gracie deserves the love of God and a family.

Is this book part of a series, or a stand-alone?

This is a stand alone.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I live in rural Saskatchewan and work part time as an administrative assistant for Renovaré Canada. I am a single foster mom to two little girls, and I have a calico cat named Lexi. I love to crochet, read, and play video games with my girls. I have been writing since I was a little girl, and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

How did you get the idea for your book?

The idea for this book actually came to me in a dream. The dream was simple: a little girl wandering through an unfamiliar house, stopping to watch a family having fun together. The little girl longs to be a part of it, but feels like she can’t. That image stuck with me and wouldn’t go away, so it became the basis for The Paper Wolf.

What authors have inspired you to write?

Kristin Hannah is my greatest inspiration to date. She writes raw, real and heart-wrenching novels. The depth of humanity she can explore is incredible. I, too, love to write raw and real. I hope to become even half as talented as she is one day.

Are you working on anything new? Tease us a little bit!

Yes! I am (slowly) working on my 5th novel. It’s a little different than anything I’ve written so far; there is a more adventurous side to it, which is new for me. It’s called Only Chance.
