Author Interview: Carol Underhill

We are delighted to have contemporary Christian Romance Author Carol Underhill on our blog today, talking about her new Christmas romance, Serena’s New Year’s Wish.

Give us a quick one paragraph summary of your latest seasonal romance release!

Serena came to Chicago for a fresh start. She never imagined that her new boss was the father of the little girl she saved, or the man that she is falling in love with. Her heart has room for Mark and his daughter, but she wants more than he’s willing to give. Mark didn’t expect a second chance at love, but he is certain that he and Serena are a perfect match. Only they can’t agree on one very important thing. Is he willing to let go of his fear to give Serena the desire of her heart? Or will his decision to stick with his plan drive her away?

Is this book part of a series, or a stand-alone?

It’s part of a series. The first book was Angelica’s Christmas Wish, and this is the sequel about the same characters.

Do you have a favorite book based around the holidays? (besides your own amazing book of course!) Tell us why it’s your favorite.

The Substitute Guest by Grace Livingston Hill. I like the way the hero of the story has a trunk full of gifts meant for a house party and gives them to the family he’s staying with instead. And the gifts that they give him are also meaningful.

What inspired you to write a book based around Christmas?

I liked the idea of the real meaning of Christmas bringing my characters back to their faith.

What did you enjoy most about writing a book set around Christmas?

I enjoyed writing the scene with the family Christmas dinner. Making a big dinner and gathering around the table is my favorite part of Christmas with my own family.

What’s your favorite holiday dessert?

Any kind of cheesecake.

Was there anything in your book inspired by real life experiences?

When I worked for a law firm, we had a client who called often to find out if there was any news about his case. Mostly he just wanted someone to talk to.

Do you like to decorate your home for the holidays? Why or why not?

I like to decorate my house, but I find with our young cats that I can’t put ornaments on the lower branches of the tree. I also don’t set up my most delicate decorations or if I do, I put them in a safe place where the cats can’t knock them over and break them.
